Broken Sculpture Reborn as Resilience Head!!!

Updated: Aug 30, 2022

A red clay sculpture I made for the very first time was broken by somebody at 92nd St Y in 2002. I didn't know what to do for a long time, but never discard it including the torn ear piece. But after 20 years, I came up with an idea to fix it with the technique of Kintsugi, connecting and repairing with lacquer and gold powder. Coincidentally, I had a chance to take a Kintsugi workshop, in which we learnt to repair a broken porcelain plate with gold powder and glue. I applied that technique on my broken sculpture on July 27th, 28th, and 29th, 2022. The result? My broken and torn head in despair was reborn as a beautiful and resilient head sculpture as you see below!! It shines in black and gold and it appears as if it is the strongest head in the world. It stands extremely proud and invincible singing a song of Victory!! My trauma totally disappeared after 20 years!!!
